비교와 경쟁이 만연한 사회에서 우리는 수십 가지의 이름을 갖고 살아간다.
하지만 타인의 시선으로 나에게 부여되는 이름들은 어딘가 부족하고 공허하다.
나는 이런 공허함으로부터 오는 질문들에 답하며, 자아의 본질과 존재의 온전함을 탐구하는 작업을 이어오고 있다.

내 작업에서 반복적으로 등장하는 소재인 ‘조약돌’은 자아의 상징이다. 2017년, 나는 타인에 의해 형성된 정체성에서 오는 불완전함,
그리고 그 안에서 겪는 내면의 혼란을 시각화하는 작업을 시작했다. 절제된 색감과 형태의 모호함을 통해 논리와 이성적 언어로는
설명되지 않는 감정의 층위를 연구했고, 이것은 이후 ‘조약돌’이라는 희망적인 의미를 담은 시각적 상징으로 구체화 되었다.
작고 단단한 조약돌은 가볍고 유연하게 모이고 흩어지며 꽃과 나비, 새와 같은 생명이 있는 존재로 변화한다. 일반적으로 ‘돌’은
무겁고 정적인 이미지로 묘사된다. 나는 이러한 돌을 상반된 방법으로 표현하면서, 자신의 의지에 따라 마음껏 변화하고 성장할 수 있는
자아의 가능성을 이야기하고자 한다. 특히, 유화, 아크릴, 색연필, 판화 기법 등 다양한 매체로 울퉁불퉁한 표현에 반사되는 빛을 섬세하게
표현하고 하는데, 이것은 조약돌이 갖고 있는 수많은 가능성을 상징한다.

조약돌이라는 모티프는 어릴 적 외할머니가 돌탑을 쌓으시던 모습에서 비롯되었다. 같은 등산로를 지나던 누군가는 돌을 걸림돌로 여겼고,
또 다른 이는 무심히 밟고 지나갔지만, 외할머니에게 돌탑과 조약돌은 간절한 소망을 기도할 수 있는 귀한 존재였다. 이 기억은 ‘존재에 의미를
부여하는 행위’에 대한 고민으로 이어졌고, 나의 작품 세계의 중심 줄기로 자리 잡게 되었다.

자신의 가치를 찾는 과정도 이와 닮아 있다고 생각한다. 타인의 기준이 아니라, 스스로를 바라보고 의미를 부여하는 것.
나의 작업이 관람자들에게도 다시 한 번 스스로를 자유롭고 귀하게 바라볼 수 있는 계기가 되길 바란다.
윤 작가는 형형색색의 조약돌을 모아 꽃의 형상을 만든다.
조약돌은 발에 챌 정도로 흔한 것이다. 그러나 작가의 눈에 들어왔을 때는 한 장의 꽃잎이 될 수 있는, 아름다운 생명력의 존재이다.
조약돌이한 송이의 꽃이 되어 가는 과정을 보여줌으로써 작가는 일상에서 주목받지 못하는 미약한 것들에 대한애정을 보이고,
그들의 가능성을 믿기로 한다. 그림 속에서 모여 꽃을 이루는 한 잎 한 잎의 조약돌은가능성과 자존감의 증거가 된다.

In a society where comparison and competition are rampant, we live under dozens of names.
Yet the names assigned to us by others often feel insufficient and hollow.
In response to the questions born from this emptiness, my work explores the nature of the self and the wholeness of existence.

The pebble, a recurring motif in my work, symbolizes the self.
Since 2017, I have visualized the sense of incompleteness that stems from identities shaped by others, along with the inner confusion
they bring. Through muted colors and ambiguous forms, I have explored emotional layers that transcend logic and rational language.
These explorations eventually took shape in the hopeful visual symbol of the pebble.
Small and solid, pebbles are light and flexible—gathering, dispersing, and transforming into living beings such as flowers, butterflies,
and birds. While stones are typically seen as heavy and static, I depict them in contrasting ways to suggest the possibility of a self
that is free to grow and change by its own will.
Using various media—oil, acrylic, colored pencil, and printmaking—I delicately express the light reflected on their uneven surfaces,
capturing the infinite potential within a single pebble.

The motif of the pebble originates from a childhood memory of my maternal grandmother stacking stones into towers.
Some hikers on the same trail saw the stones as obstacles; others stepped on them without a thought.
But for her, the stone towers and pebbles were precious—quiet presences she could lean on with her deepest hopes and prayers.
This memory led me to reflect on the act of assigning meaning to existence, a theme that has become central to my work.

I believe the journey to discovering one’s own worth is much the same: seeing oneself clearly and assigning meaning not through others’ standards, but through one’s own.
I hope my work offers viewers a moment to see themselves freely, and with renewed sense of worth.
